Humming House is the quirky musical playground of Justin Wade Tam, a roots musician from the sands of California and banks of the Cumberland River. Taking a step away from past projects, Tam redefines himself, bringing a new world of sound into the ever-changing international music scene.
Accompanied by a revolving cast of cohorts, Humming House flaunts folk guitar melodies, ukulele bluegrass, blues choruses and harmonious gospel breakdowns. The unmistakable pop sensibilities mixed with a depth of lyrical narrative give the whimsical songs an irresistible quality that can only be described by the imagery of the name – Humming House.
No newcomer to the world of independent music, Tam spent the past three years crisscrossing the globe with the combination folk-duo and traveling art/literature collaborative: “Quote.” In 2008 the band released a 130-page paperback book containing interpretive art and literature entitled The Pace Of Our Feet. “Quote” followed with an EP, A Deeper Green, in March 2010, and were featured on NPR and in Performing Songwriter magazine.
Now, recording his first record with Grammy Award winning producer Mitch Dane, Tam’s new project is coming to life. Humming House is set to release a swingy ukulele single, “Gypsy Django”, that brings the free-spirited sounds and jovial emotions of the roaring 20s into the world of 2011. “Django” does not just take the smiling listener back in time, it offers a unique taste of percussion, uplifting and soulful background vocals by Kristen Rogers, the multi-instrumental styling of Dr. Mike Butera, and Tam’s own twist that he’s developed through an array of influences that include blues, Celtic and Americana.
Humming House is not just a playground, it’s a destination about to be put on the map that you must visit and experience for yourself. The doors are open. Come on in. You won’t want to leave, as “Django” is just the beginning of an enchanting musical exploration with a sound deeper than decades.
